Throughout your thesis you will be using and re(using) other people’s ideas and works. At the minimum, you will cite the sources on which you have build your research. In addition, you may be reusing other people’s work like images, software or code. If your master program allows it, you might also be using genAI output throughout your thesis. When handing in your thesis you have to take care that you are accurately using and reusing the work of others, and that you are transparant about your use of AI. Finally, if you are interested in a future career in research, look into additional ways to share your work by applying open science principles.

Common activities during this phase of the your information journey include:

• 5a. Citing Sources - Understand ways of citing, apply a correct referencing style and create a reference list for a variety of sources

• 5b. Reporting AI Use - Know why and how you should acknowledge the use of AI in your work

• 5c. Re(use) Copyrighted Sources - Correctly (re)use sources in accordance with their copyright licensing and know your own rights

• 5d. Open Science - Know about open science principles
